See whether you made a profit
The reports show sales, the cost of what you sold, and the difference — by day, by product and by category, so you can see which lines actually earn.
Open Reports and choose a period. The summary gives revenue, cost of goods sold, gross profit and expenses; the breakdowns below it answer the more useful question, which is where the profit came from.
- By product — which items earn and which only move.
- By category — whether a whole section of the shop is carrying the rest.
- By hour and by day — when the shop is actually busy, which is a staffing question.
- By staff member — who is selling, and who is discounting.
These figures are only as good as the cost prices you entered. If cost is blank or stale, the report will show a profit that does not exist — and it is a convincing-looking number, which makes it worse than no number.
Your sales data stays yours. Nothing in these reports is shown to another shop, and nothing identifying your shop is shown to anyone.
